Perfect Crust

Zipping along laying fresh tracks in a 1/2 inch or so of snow atop a solid spring crust as the ski runs from Breckenridge Ski Resort come into view across the valley.
Beautiful day for a skijor!
Breckenridge Ski Resort across the valley as you see fresh tracks behind Zorro & Jack.
The "spring crust" this morning was absolutely perfect. I love this time of year when the snowpack is good and the nightly temperatures drop below freezing. When overnight low gets into the 20s (F) or lower, we know the next day will have a perfect crust to skijor. What is so fun about the crust? Well, it is solid enough to hold my partners as well as hold me on skis. As a result, we can abandon set trails and skijor anywhere we want. Just look at the following wide angle photo to understand what I mean:
Perfect & endless crust at far as the eye can see. We can go any direction we desire.
What a great snowpack we have this year and what a great overnight cooling we had last night!
Along with the overnight chill, we had a dusting of new snow. A solid crust plus a layer of fresh snow is the perfect conditions to uncork the skijoring engine as we make our own path all over the terrain.
Flying Zorro with hovering Jack & Rudy. Zoom!
Come along for today's video highlight as we speed atop the solid spring crust. The tracks you see to the left are our own "up tracks" - we had the perfect terrain to ourselves all morning long! Wheeee!
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

At our turnaround point of the outing - everyone having a good time?
"YES!" says the happy trio in unison!
But wait, are we stopped? Uh-oh, you know what that means :)
The silly kids doing what has become their patented "double snow angel" lately.
"What a pair of goofballs!" adds onlooking Zorro :)

What a perfect spring crust all morning long! 5.9 miles traveled with 800 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2018/2019 Season to Date: 91 days on the trails covering 507.7 miles with 46,000 feet of elevation climbed.
