Chew Toys

Riding the "Jack & Rudy towrope" along perfect nordic trails this morning!

Wheeee!

Yesterday, Jack & Rudy found a stick to play with before we started our skijor. Today, they found a pair of chew toys to play with at our turnaround point on the trail. "Chew toys?" you ask....

Yep, the chew toys were each other!
The goofy kids decided to gnaw on each other while rolling snow angels.
Talented, but goofy! :)

Anyway, back to skijoring. Gold Run Nordic Center closes for the season tomorrow. As a result, we've been getting the most out of these trails while the conditions are still good. In between chewing on each other while rolling snow angels, Jack & Rudy were in a fast & fun skijor groove today.

Zoom! Rudy the high speed cannonball next to Jack the high
speed missile. Wheeee!

Come along for today's fun video highlight as there is a lot of action packed into this 45 second clip. We start with the kids doing their usual, flying along the fast groomie zoomie. Then, notice that Jack backs off the gangline a bit as we are approaching a fork in the trail. Sometimes we lean left (staying on the groomed track) and sometimes we veer right (onto the ungroomed side trail). Jack is such a great lead dog as he will automagically slow when we approach decision points and wait for my instruction. Once I call out the direction to go, Jack is back in high gear next to Rudy. Then, watch as I need to slalom a bit behind the kids in preparation for a very steep (albeit short) dip in the trail. I need to prepare myself for this vertical drop behind them. Finally, once through the dip, off we continue flying along the trail. Zoom!

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

It was "the usual" when we encountered others on the trail: zoom on by and put a smile on the faces of the crowd :)

"Hi! Bye! Coming through!" says the fun kids zooming on by.

Once done zooming around the trails and time for 'end of run' treats with retired mentor Zorro. Everybody knows treats taste better with your toes on snow!

Toes on snow for end of run treats!
Notice the exposed road/dirt behind Zorro. Everyone, even retired Zorro,
knows treats taste better when your toes are on snow!

Our second to last nordic run at Gold Run Nordic Center this season: 9.5 miles traveled with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a stop speed of 24 MPH.

2021/2022 Season to Date: 126 days on the trails covering 1069.5 miles with 99,900 feet of elevation climbed.
