Ho Hum, 1100 Miles

All smiles as we glide to the finish on this morning's skijor where we surpassed 1100 miles for the season and 100,000 feet of elevation climbed!

1105.3 miles traveled and 100,300 feet of elevation climbed... and still more to go :)

Smiles all around!

Wondering about the "ho hum" in this blog title? Well, the last 5 skijor outings have been real adventures: 1) exploring new trails in deep powder; 2) abandoning set trails to explore the great outdoors; 3) rerouting our outing due to a coyote; 4) extending our outing waiting for moose to move out of the middle of the trail; and 5) getting cutoff by a moose darting out of the forest. Today, we did not see another living being (wild or tame) as we cruised out & back on the main Walton Peak Trail. I was quite ok with a "ho hum" day given the last 5 :)

I did get a great wide angle shot of the incredible snowpack around Walton Peak. It was white (and deep white) as far as the eye can see:

The hump to the upper left is Walton Peak. We'll be skijoring to the top of
this once there is a good spring crust.

It was a warm day by Jack & Rudy's standards: temperatures in the upper 20s F when we started and low 30s F when we ended. You know what that meant at turnaround time...

Yep, must roll snow angels to cool off before restarting :)
Look at that pure happiness on both kids' faces.

Along with warmish temperatures, the trail was also very soft. It was full of snowmobile tracks, but the tracks were very soft. This makes for some aerobic work on the part of Jack & Rudy (think of running in soft dirt or sand). Not a problem, though, the kids showed all their power & stamina today towing me all over the soft terrain. Come along for a video glimpse into the morning's fun:

A little further along and a cool shot of the airborne kids moving quickly through soft snowmobile tracks. Impressive!

Zooming along, wheeee!

Back to the trailhead and, once again, the comedians found a snow wall to climb to get face to face with standing me for end of run treats.

"Look how tall we are!" declares Jack & Rudy at eye level with me (I'm 5'11").

A peaceful albeit aerobic outing this morning: 9.3 miles traveled with 800 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 22 MPH.

2022/2023 Season to Date: 124 days on the trails covering 1105.3 miles with 100,300 feet of elevation climbed.
