Perfect Crust

Nice view of Peaks 1-4 of the Ten Mile Range and Buffalo Mountain in Silverthorne!
Peaks 1-4 are in front of Zorro & Rudy. Buffalo Mountain is in front of Jack. Nice view up here!
"We'd rather be MOVING. Are you done gawking yet?!?" ask my pals not as impressed with
the views as me :)
We went to the same Golden Horseshoe area as yesterday morning. But with such a great snowpack this May, we were able to do a completely different route than yesterday. Except for the start/finish of the day, we made our own path up, down and across open meadows without repeating any of yesterday's outing. What a fun snowpack we have this year!

If you know the trails in the area, the following photo is amazing. We are on spring crust over what is the "Prospect Hike/Bike Trail" in the summer (connecting Prospect Hill to Side Door). We have NEVER skijored the Prospect Trail in May. It is the lowest elevation of the trails in Golden Horseshoe and is usually down to dirt & mud by this time of year. What fun!
Catching air on what is the Prospect Trail in summer; but it is the perfect spring
crust trail this year!!!
Now for the video counterpart of the prior photo. Come along as we skijor the Prospect Trail for the first time ever in May. Yay! The trail is a little bumpy with some exposed ground as we start but it quickly transitions to an endless and perfect spring crust.
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

After doing some laps around the lower meadows, we climbed Prospect Hill to the top. Once at the top, time for the turnaround antics from the children.
"I wonder if they will EVER turnaround without rolling?" ponders happy Zorro.
"Ahhhh, rolling, rolling, rolling!" demonstrates comical Jack.
"Just taking in the views!" adds funny Rudy (who just finished rolling a snow angel too).
Silly antics over, time to skijor back down and get some nice views of Breckenridge Ski Resort:
"Nice view!" say forward focused Zorro & Jack.
"Distracted to the left!' adds very distractible Rudy :)
I glanced left just to make sure Rudy did not spot a moose or something big. Silly me,
all I saw was a squirrel running atop the crust too.
Another Great May Day on perfect spring crust!
Eek - dirt/mud behind me, we'll have our end of run treats over here on the shoulder!
Another 6.7 miles added to our season with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 21 MPH.

2018/2019 Season to Date: 110 days on the trails covering 628.6 miles with 58,900 feet of elevation climbed.
