800 and Counting

Surpassing 800 miles of skijoring for the season yesterday.
800 and counting...
We spent about 2/3 of the day breaking trail in 8+ inches of fresh powder.
What a workout!

We ended up surpassing 800 miles for the season the hard way. The plan was to do a short & fast run on Rabbit Ears Pass. The reality was a short & deep (and, thus, slow) run breaking trail in 8 inches to multiple feet of snow! We did have snowmobile tracks to follow for about 1/3 of the outing; but the rest of the day was a serious trail breaking workout. Surpassing 800 the hard way....   :)

Near the start of the day's run and trotting along in fresh snowmobile tracks.

There was a group of 5 snowmobilers out with us for the beginning of the day. In hindsight, we should have just followed their tracks all day and surpassed 800 the easy way. But we (okay, ME) got the crazy idea of veering off and carving our own path into the forest where it got deep, deeper and DEEEEEEP as we all took turns breaking trail until we got to our intended destination.
"Thanks for the trail!" states 'all business' Max cruising by 3 of the snowmobiles using their track.
"Hi!!!" says nosy Zorro backing off from running side-by-side so he can interact with the
group of snowmobiles (Zorro is notorious for his nosiness :)

Breaking trail is a workout, but still a great time had by all...
"What a fun workout!" states happy Max circling around at turnaround point on the trail.
"Hey, get that glove out of the way!" exclaims Zorro whose happy face is unfortunately
obscured by my right hand.

A workout day covering 4.9 miles with 600 feet of elevation climbed.

2014/2015 Season to Date: 93 days on the trails covering 802.8 miles with 85,550 feet of elevation climbed.
