Off/On

Cool shot of the "triple hover huskies" as we float along the perfect groomed trail this morning!
Whee - 12 feet synchronized off the ground. Hovering!
We split today's outing in half. The first 1/2 found the kids, Jack & Rudy, and I touring the forest off the beaten track. The second 1/2 had elder Zorro join the team for a fast & fun "on track" sprint around the trails at Gold Run Nordic Center. So fun to exercise the kids off trail and then add elder Zorro for more fun on trail!

For our "off trail" run of the morning, we found ourselves laying fresh tracks in about 2-3 inches of new snow. Yay for freshies!
Fresh tracks run with Jack & Rudy as you can see their
footprints in the shallow powder behind them.
I paused once during our off trail tour to adjust my equipment and, well, I paused...
"You stop, we ROLL!" demonstrates the 'we roll at every stop' goofy kids.
After our off trail fun, we dropped onto Gold Run Nordic Center to pickup elder Zorro for an out & back on the gentle nordic terrain. We were 2nd or 3rd tracks on the recently groomed trails all morning long. The trio really kicked it into overdrive on the fast & fun groomie zoomies.

Love this shot of Flying Zorro alongside hovering Jack & Rudy. Go Z Go!!!
The flying Zorro missile next to the hovering kids :)
The trails at Gold Run are known for being in moose habitat; but there have been additional signs up lately warning of increased moose activity in the area. So, look at the following shot - you better believe my head shot right as soon as I saw this "wildlife glance" from Rudy! Luckily, we did not see any moose to the right, phew!
"Beep, beep - wildlife of some form to the right!" says 'hunt and jog' Rudy!
Come along for a minute of super fun "groomie zoomie" skijoring. We were really flying around the groomed trails this morning. Watch closely at about 24-25 seconds in the video and you'll see Rudy's wildlife glance to the right. As I said, I immediately glanced right too but then relaxed as I saw nothing AND neither Zorro or Jack shared Rudy's off trail interest. If there had been a moose, you know all three would have glanced that way!

A little more of the fast & fun groomie zoomie with hovering Zorro and Rudy on each side of the Jack missile:

Finally, end of the outing and the standard "all smiles" as my palls gallop to the finish.
Whee - what a fun day!
A nice mixture day with "off trail fresh tracks" for Jack & Rudy and then "on trail groomie zoomies" once for the second half of the outing with elder Zorro: 7.2 miles traveled with 650 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 22 MPH.

2019/2020 Season to Date: 120 days on the trails covering 814.9 miles with 74,400 feet of elevation climbed.
