Gold Run

Today's skijoring outing took us on a tour of the "upper trails" of the Gold Run Nordic Center.

Near the start - heading into the forest before connecting down onto the Gold Run
Nordic Center trails. Such a serene & peaceful photo!
The nordic center is actually closed for the season as the majority of their trails are on the Breckenridge Golf Course and, thus, exposed to lots of sun and fast melting in April. But, there are some "upper trails" at Gold Run that extend above the golf course and into the woods to eventually connect into the backcountry. We had some good snowfall yesterday morning, so that had Max, Zorro & I thinking, "Hmmm, new snow on the packed trails of the recently closed nordic center - that should be some fun & fast conditions..."

We started outside of the actual nordic center and did a little backcountry touring before dropping down onto Gold Run's trails to complete the day. A fun 8 mile tour with a layer of untouched new snow the entire duration - whee!

Sprinting along a straightaway along the Gold Run trails.
The Siberians have practically morphed themselves into a single 8-legged machine :-)
A little more snow on the trails in the shade - still sprinting along the Gold Run trails.

Put it all together for a fast outing laying fresh tracks in a trace to 3 inches of snow all day.
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

A quick day using the Gold Run Nordic Center "upper trails" before they completely melt for the season: 8.2 miles with 800 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 19 MPH.

Fun shot of the "happy husky faces" as we pull of the trail for a quick 3-4 minute break at
the midpoint of our outing.
