Groomer Dust

Look at the "groomer dust" kicking up all around Jack & Rudy as the FLY along the freshly groomed trail. Impressive!

Kicking up "groomer dust" as we FLY along! Wheeee!

What is "groomer dust"? Well, when a groomer has just run on the trail, it loosens up the snow into soft corduroys that create dust flying up around fast running Jack & Rudy, especially when the underlying snow is soft & recent to begin with.

As we pulled into the trailhead this morning, we saw the groomer start out immediately in front of us to groom the trails. "First tracks just minutes after the groomer? This is going to be FUN!" I said to Jack & Rudy as we were getting hooked up.

Sure enough, we followed the groomer out & up the trail until we encountered it coming back down:

"Uh, groomer coming our way!" says Jack & Rudy pausing to look back
to me for guidance about the big machine coming our way :)

We moved off trail to let the groomer go by; but the driver wanted to stop and chat with us about skijoring and trail conditions (who wouldn't want to chat with Jack & Rudy? :)

Having a chat with the groomer driver.

Where's Rudy in the prior photo? Well, look closely and you'll see a smidge of red fur in the bottom/center just to the left of Jack. Once Rudy realized we were going to "stop & talk", he laid down at my feet to take a break, silly kid. Jack, on the other hand, was all ears wanted to take in everything we were chatting about!

In addition to talking about skijoring, the driver warned us that the trail had an extended ice patch a little further up and the groomer could not make it across! This big machine couldn't make it - no way. We had to see:

"This is where the groomer got stuck and had to turn around? We
could make it!
" declares happy Jack & Rudy.

Actually, my real reason to go up the trail a bit after the groomer meeting was to give it a head start grooming the trail we just came up again so that we'd have a fresh groom to follow. Come along for the fast & furious run with "groomer dust" flying up all around us :)

The driver told us the reroute he was going to drive to avoid the place he got stuck. So, Jack, Rudy and I rerouted ourselves to keep intersecting with freshly groomed trails. We did not run into Mr. Groomer again, but we did keep finding ourselves being first tracks in trails groomed just minutes before us:

Kicking up groomer dust again as we fly by the Hallelujah Warming Hut
with a fresh & untouched groomed trail in front of us. Wow!

What fun, we have to go tell Zorro about today's incredible run:

"Been there, done that! How about those end of run treats?" says Zorro :)
"Now that was FUN!" super happy Rudy is telling me.
"You have my full attention!" adds Jack.

An amazing day following the groomer up, down and around the trails at Breckenridge Nordic Center: 9.3 miles traveled with 900 feet of elevation climbed and a groomie zoomie top speed of 24 MPH.

2020/2021 Season to Date: 32 days on the trails covering 248.5 miles with 22,700 feet of elevation climbed.
