Peak to Peak

Cool shot of Jack & Rudy towing me to the end of yesterday's skijor as happy, retired Zorro looks on approvingly:

"Hi big bro! Thanks for waiting for us and THANKS for teaching us
how to skijor!!!!
" says happy Jack & Rudy to happy & approving Zorro.

Today's blog summarizes our skijoring fun from yesterday morning and this morning as we skijored two different peaks in two days.

Yesterday was laying fresh tracks and backcountry skijoring on Walton Peak at Rabbit Ears Pass. We started the day on a surprisingly untouched stretch of 4-6 inches of fresh powder:

Untouched 4-6 inches of powder all to ourselves!!!

But, Walton Peak is a popular backcountry destination, so we knew we would not be laying fresh tracks all morning. Indeed, after about 3/4 of a mile and we met with existing tracks for the duration of the outing:

Zipping along in the existing tracks around Walton Peak.

Come along for a fun video clip of Jack & Rudy opening up the skijoring engine on some well-packed backcountry trails. Oh, and don't worry about Jack about 20 seconds into the video. The terrain on the right shoulder got a little rough, so he hopped in Rudy's more packed track for 4-5 seconds until his right shoulder was stable enough for him to hop back over to the shallow right powder :)

Need a comedy break from the morning? How about Rudy and his patented rodent dives?

"Incoming!!!!" demonstrates rodent diving Rudy.
"Hey little bro, what did you sense under the snow?" asks onlooking Jack.

From "backcountry touring" on Walton Peak Friday morning, we transitioned to a groomed speed track on Peak 7 of Breckenridge Ski Resort on Saturday morning:

A perfect "groomed corduroy trail" to absolutely floor it :)

How perfect was the groomed trail on Peak 7? Well, only one skate skier had been on the trail before us. It was so perfect that we hit our top speed of this season: 24 MPH! Come along for a view into the fast & fun outing and take note of Jack & Rudy kicking it into overdrive around the last 15 seconds of this clip. This is where we topped 24 MPH. Zoom!

Need more evidence of "how fast"? How about a synchronized hover husky from sprinting Jack & Rudy:

Hovering! Wheeee!

Finally, celebrating the end of two incredible days of skijoring with cool old man Zorro:

All smiles and such focus :)

Two vastly different but incredibly fun days skijoring on peak and then another: 6.6 miles with 500 feet of elevation climbed doing backcountry touring on Walton Peak Friday and then 9 miles with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 24 MPH on the groomed trails of Breckenridge Nordic Center on Peak 7 Saturday.

2020/2021 Season to Date: 22 days on the trails covering 165.7 miles with 14,600 feet of elevation climbed.
