Recpath

Cruising along the Blue River Recreation Path connecting Breckenridge to Frisco this morning!

Providing great entertainment for the cars on Highway 9
between Breckenridge & Frisco.

Jack & Rudy love skijoring the recpath from Breckenridge to Frisco. The path mirrors the Blue River along the way and also mirrors Highway 9 going from Breckenridge to Frisco. We often get honks, waves and cheers from the cars seeing the powerful sled dogs towing me along. It was windy & snowy this morning, so the car windows were up; but we did get two "honks & waves" from two vehicles. Fun!

Jack was REALLY ready to go this morning. He loves this route! Rudy was ready too, just not as READY as Jack. Come along and watch the start to this morning's outing as Jack practically shoots out of a cannon to start the day. Whee!

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Along with entertaining the cars on Highway 9, we get a bunch of other fun activities along the way. We have three bridge crossings as the recpath moves from one side of the Blue River to the other.

Jack & Rudy keeping stride as we cross over the Blue River.

The recpath intersects 3 roads along the way. The roads are plowed, of course, so I have to take my skis off to cross each time. Skis on/off requires stopping obviously. So, we get the usual from Jack & Rudy at each stop :)

Stop, drop and roll while I put my skis back on!

Then, as we get to the edge of Frisco, we pass by a VERY distracting stables. Jack & Rudy run on by, but not without paying close attention to the horses :)

"Hey, I'm still running!" demonstrates talented Jack inspecting the
horses as he keeps going.

Finally, we get to enjoy end of run treats in the parking lot of the Frisco Nordic Center.

"You have our complete attention!" declares my cute partners.

Fun day skijoring from Breckenridge to Frisco: 8.7 miles traveled with 300 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2022/2023 Season to Date: 61 days on the trails covering 526.5 miles with 46,400 feet of elevation climbed.

Three, Two, Three

What a beautiful bluebird morning to glide along the Blue River Recreation Path with my beautiful partners!
Happy sled dogs, beautiful morning! Wheeee!
Skijoring the rec path is a fun outing as we are able to add Zorro on the team in the beginning and end of the outing with Jack & Rudy running longer in between. Most of our split outings where Zorro participates for only part of the run have Zorro either starting or ending with us but not both as most trails do not have a lot of convenient places to drop or add Zorro with Nancy. But, the rec path is the opposite as it intersects many roads where we can drop Zorro with Nancy or pick him back up. Fun to have elder Zorro on the team for both the start & finish while still giving Jack & Rudy a longer outing!

Come along and watch the start to today's outing. We begin with a burst and then slow slightly to gently cross a bridge and then open it back up once over and clear of the bridge. Wheeee!
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

As you see in the video and first photo, Zorro came along for the start. We dropped him with Nancy at the first intersection along the trail. I then continued on with Jack & Rudy to zoom along the perfect trail on a perfect morning:
Zoom we go on the perfect groomed trail! Love the "snow poofs" behind
their feet as they propel me along!
While the road intersections provide lots of opportunities to grow or shrink the team, they also make for stops to remove the skis, cross the road and put the skis back on. It only takes me about 20 or at most 30 seconds to remove or reattach the skis. But, a stop is a stop to Jack & Rudy regardless of how long or short.

Stop for skis off, kids roll.
"It's a stop, we roll!" demonstrates the goofball twins.
You can see the road we need to cross to the right.
Cross the road, put the skis back down to reattach...

Stop for skis on, kids roll.
"A stop is a stop, of course we roll!" they demonstrate once again.
Go, stop for skis off & roll, cross, stop for skis on & roll, go (repeat, repeat, repeat :)

After an out & back along the rec path with Jack & Rudy, we met up with Zorro & Nancy again to re-add Zorro for the run to the finish. Back to the powerful & happy three pack:
All smiles as the power trio tows me along to the finish.
Back to the bridge from the start video above and another gentle cross before ending the morning's fun run.
Pretty sled dogs, pretty views!
A unique outing skijoring as a 3 pack, 2 pack and then 3 pack again: 6.4 miles traveled with 400 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2019/2020 Season to Date: 113 days on the trails covering 765.0 miles with 70,100 feet of elevation climbed.

Bridge Crossing

Fun clip of the trio towing me across a bridge on the groomed Blue River Recreation Path connecting Breckenridge, CO to Frisco, CO.
Over the bridge we go - wheeee!
As the intro above implies, we skijored the Blue River Recreation Path today. This is a bike & jogging trail in the Spring, Summer and Fall but is then transformed into a beautiful groomed trail in the Winter. We started the day with the skijor trio and took off on the fast groomed trail:
I'm pretty sure all 12 feet are off the ground here although Jack's feet are
somewhat obscured, I am pretty certain they are all off the ground like
Zorro and Rudy :)
The nice thing about the rec path, for Zorro, is that there are lots of points where the path intersects with perpendicular roads. As a result, we have many opportunities to drop elder Zorro of with Nancy while continuing on to give the youngsters, Jack & Rudy, more exercise. We dropped Zorro with Nancy at the first road intersection this morning and then I continued and out & back on the rec path with the kids.

The rec path parallels the Blue River on one side and Highway 9 (between Breckenridge and Frisco) on the other side. A few times the path swerves close enough to the highway for cars to see my pals towing me quickly along the trail. We always get approving honks or cheers from open windows and frequently see people hanging out the windows with phones videoing us!
Flying along the fast groomie zoomie as we entertain all the oncoming
cars to our right.
While the many intersections give us option to drop and/or add Zorro in the team, it also causes us to stop frequently (I have to take my skis off to cross the road). I am pretty fast and putting the ski off and on, but not fast enough for Jack & Rudy. A stop is a stop...
The conjoined snow angel twins at it again. If you can tell which legs
are Jack's and which are Rudy's, I'm impressed :)
After an extended out & back on the rec path to exercise Jack & Rudy, we had the opportunity to load Zorro back in the team again for a sprint to the finish:
LOVE the smiles on all the faces!!!!
Today's video highlight is unique in that is shows our skijor over a bridge. Come along as we cruise by Nancy in the start of the clip and then cross the bridge cautiously but still quickly until we come out the other side to floor it to the finish.
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Finally, some well-earned 'end of run' pork treats to celebrate the day's fun outing:
"Ready! Dish them out!" says the focused trio.
A fun trail where we have many options to drop & add Zorro in & out of the team to give him a gentle outing while I add distance to exercise the kids: 6.9 miles traveled with 400 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2019/2020 Season to Date: 103 days on the trails covering 701.0 miles with 64,500 feet of elevation climbed. Oh boy - we've surpassed 700 miles of skijoring for the season. 700 and counting!!!

Rec Path

Skijoring the Blue River Recreation Path from Breckenridge to Frisco - wheeee!
Nice shot of the fast & fun trio towing me along the rec path.
The rec path is a paved trail for cycling between the towns of Breckenridge and Frisco in Spring, Summer and Fall. But, in winter it is transformed into a groomed ski trail between Breckenridge and Frisco. The path follows the shores of the Blue River between the two towns. Along the way you get the unique experience of skijoring on bridges crossing over the river.
Crossing the Blue River as we skijor a bridge - a unique experience we do not get on any
other trails!
The rec path does intersect with many road crossings along the way. Time to pause, take off the skis and walk over the road. Remember to look both ways everyone :)
"All clear to the left, let's go!" says the smart trio checking left (and then right) before
crossing the road.
Of course, each road crossing caused us to stop. Yes, I said we stopped, you know what that means:
"Are they really going to roll after each road crossing?" asks Zorro.
"We don't care why we stopped - a stop is a stop and a stop is a snow angel activity!'
demonstrates the goofball kids.
There were four road crossings along the way this morning. At each crossing everyone paused while I took my skis off to cross. At each crossing the silly kids rolled snow angels on the other side of the road while waiting for me to put my skis back on. At least they are consistent :)
"I give up, I cannot watch them any longer!" says Zorro.
"Conjoined snow angels!" demonstrates the silly kids. Where does Jack end and
Rudy start? I have no idea :)
In between the road crossings, though, it was a beautiful trail to uncork the skijoring engine this morning. Come along for today's video highlight as we skijor the Blue River Recreation Path.

End of a fun morning and time to celebrate with 'end of run' treats:
All smiles in anticipation of the upcoming treats!
A peaceful cruise along the rec path with 4 road crossings and, thus, 4 snow angel episodes for the silly kids: 5.8 miles traveled with 300 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2019/2020 Season to Date: 48 days on the trails covering 320.6 miles with 31,100 feet of elevation climbed.
