Double Digit

Conditions were finally good enough for our first "double digit mileage" outing of the season: 10.1 miles - YAY!
Nice shot of the fresh snow all over the trails for us this morning. Beautiful!

Fresh snow last night added to the growing snowpack at Rabbit Ears Pass and we found ourselves on our first skijor outing of the season free of obstacles (rocks, roots, mud, etc). We did an "out & back" at Rabbit Ears and were laying fresh tracks in the new snow the entire out direction...
Another fun shot of the fresh snow as we set our own trail through the forest!

The upside of an "out & back" outing with fresh snow? Well, you get to sprint back in the track you set on the way out. Max & Zorro were really into our first "fast as you want" outing of the season!
"We are flying! We are flying! FINALLY!" screams Max to Zorro as they are in a sprint tuck
along the fast terrain.

Funny Max had to show his appreciation for the new snow at our turnaround point of the day:
"Rub-a-dub-dub, love to roll in the snow!" demonstrates silly Max.
"I see no reason to turnaround, look at all the untouched snow this way!" states intense
little Zorro.

Finally, conditions good enough for our first 10+ mile outing of the season: 10.1 miles traveled with 1000 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 19 MPH.

2016/2017 Season to Date: 14 days on the trails covering 97.1 miles with 9700 feet of elevation climbed.

Freshies

Wonder what Max was whispering to Zorro as we flew along the trail this morning....
"Hey little bro - let's FLOOR IT!" suggests 'sprinting while whispering' Max.

We had a surprise snowfall early this morning which lead to us laying fresh tracks in 1-3 inches of snow on a fun loop through the forest this morning. Freshies all to ourselves - yay!
Trotting along as we approach an old abandoned mining cabin ahead to the left.

Freshies always bring out excitement from Max & Zorro:
Fresh tracks = Zoom! Nice profile of out-stretched Max.

Quick pause from the human to check the time, so you might as well scan the forest for wildlife:
"I sense something in the trees to the left!" states inquisitive Zorro.
"Hmmm, me too!" replies curious Max.

We had a nice video of skijoring through the forest; but youtube is being fussy today and will not load it. Oh well, hope you enjoyed the photos as much as we enjoyed making them :)

Freshies in the forest all morning: 8.2 miles traveled with 950 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 19 MPH.

2015/2016 Season to Date: 66 days on the trails covering 558.8 miles with 59150 feet of elevation climbed.

Boreas

Our first run up & down Boreas Pass this season - wheeee!
Flying along the fast packed trail - zoom!

A beautiful bluebird day to glide up and down Boreas with my skijor pals.
Perfect conditions on the trail and beautiful blue sky morning.

Max was in a goofy mood as I caught him whispering something to Zorro multiple times during the outing...
"Hey little bro - how fast do you think we can make this human go?!?" says goofy Max whispering
to Zorro as we run along the trail.

We stepped off the main trail up high on Boreas to play in the side powder.
"Fun deep snow!" exclaims happy Max.
"Breaking trail - wheee!" demonstrates snowplowing Zorro.

Great conditions for our first trip of the season up/down Boreas Pass: 8.8 miles traveled with 900 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2015/2016 Season to Date: 27 days on the trails covering 224.8 miles with 22950 feet of elevation climbed.
