Warm Day

11 of 12 feet off the ground as we fly along the fast trails at Breckenridge Nordic Center!
All but Zorro's right front foot off the ground as we zoom along!
It was a warm day for this morning's outing (by Siberian Husky standards :)  The temperatures were at or just above freezing during the entire outing. Just how hot did my pals think it was? Well come along and see.

So hot that Jack did a "stop, drop and roll" on the trail. We were skijoring up a slight rise in the trail and Jack declared "ON FIRE" and without a wait command from me, he took the initiative to stop the team and drop & roll in the middle of the trail. Max used to do the "stop, drop and roll" on hot days but this was Jack's first true stop, drop & roll. What a goof!
"He just stopped and dropped in the middle of the trail!" says happy Rudy.
"Whoa, had to hop just off trail to avoid the goof!" says Zorro who stepped right to avoid
getting hit by Jack's flying body :)
Further along in the outing and Rudy pushed Jack out of the way to do a stop, drop & roll of his own on the side of the trail. Once again, I did not give a wait command to stop, Rudy simply declared it necessary to stop, drop and roll!
"Aaahh, now that feels good!" says silly Rudy.
"He just pushed me off trail! How rude!" adds happy Jack.
"Why are we stopped again?!?" asks happy Zorro.
Still further along and the silly kids threw themselves off trail to stop, drop & roll again!
"Third time and you have not said 'wait' once! Kids, kids, kids!" says Zorro.
"Aaaahhhhh!" add Jack & Rudy!
We did actually skijor in between all the stop, drop & rolls...
All 12 feet off the ground now. Look at Zorro's shadow to see that he is 4 off the ground along
with hovering Jack & Rudy.
Come along for a view into how fast the trails were this morning. But, first, notice the incredible snow wall to our right as the video starts. We have some terrific snowpack to skijor through May and into June. If your volume is up, you'll hear my skis scraping like crazy the entire video as I try to keep the speed machine under control. Then about 2/3 into the video we are approaching a blind right corner on the trail. I like to slow into blind curves as you do not know what is on the other side. Moose? loose dog? group of people? bear? porcupine? All of these have happened to us at least once. But, the trail is so fast & slick I am barely able to slow us down before going through the corner. Then, phew, nothing around the corner and we open up again. Wheeee!
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Rudy's first "warm day skijor" and Jack's first "warm day skijor" since last May and both perfected "stop, drop & roll": 6.9 miles traveled with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 21 MPH.

2018/2019 Season to Date: 90 days on the trails covering 501.8 miles with 45,200 feet of elevation climbed.
