Jack & Rudy catching air as we lay fresh tracks along a beautiful stretch of trail!
Whee, the hover huskies are back for another season :) |
We had so much fun on the upper elevation trails of Breckenridge Nordic Center yesterday that we returned today! In the prior photo, the tracks you see to our left are our own tracks from skiing this trail the other direction. The layer of fresh snow on the trail is actually snow blown off trees as it did not snow yesterday. But, snow from the sky or blown from the trees is all fun for us - Jack & Rudy love laying fresh tracks!
For some added excitement this morning, we came across elk tracks sprinkled all over the trail at one point. Originally I thought they were moose tracks; but, after getting home and looking at this photo, those two-toed prints on the trail are not big enough for a moose and much larger than a deer; thus Elk Tracks!
While we spent most of the morning cruising around the set trails of the nordic center, we did hop off trail once to enjoy some fresh powder on an unpacked side trail.
Jack & Rudy cruising through 6-8 inches of untouched snow. Fun! |
Back to the nordic center and Jack & Rudy love putting smiles on the faces of skiers we encounter on the trail. They always fly on by perfectly. Such good boys!
"Hi... bye... made you smile!" says flying on by Jack & Rudy. You can see the big smile on the skier's face as he watches the impressive sled dogs towing me along. |
Ok, now here's the video counterpart of the prior photo. Cruising, cruising, then passing on by perfectly and back to cruising, cruising, cruising!
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]
At our turnaround point on the fresh powder side trail and we get the usual from the silly kids:
"Woooo! So much fun!" declares wooing Rudy. "Ah, rolling snow angels in nice powder!" says Jack the snow angel machine. |
Back to the trailhead to celebrate an incredible 10 mile October skijor with 'end of run' treats:
"We had a blast! So glad summer is OVER!" says the happy & focused pair. |
What a gem of an October outing: 10.1 miles traveled with 1000 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 22 MPH.
2023/2024 Season to Date: 4 days on the trails covering 31.8 miles with 3400 feet of elevation climbed.
