Peaceful Day

A peaceful Saturday following snowmobile tracks on some of the lesser known trails in Breckenridge (and, no, we are not saying where :-)
The view for most of the day: gliding behind trotting/running Max & Zorro following
snowmobile tracks through the forest - wheeee!

Today's route is one of our favorite "weekend trails" as very few people know about it and, thus, it avoids the heavy weekend crowds on the well-known trails. The route takes us weaving up & through a dense forest before topping out at wide open meadow.
Popping out of the forest and into one of our favorite open meadows.
It is actually pretty difficult for a human (skier or snowshoer) to get to this meadow; thus the
reason it is seldom used and the only tracks we ever encounter are snowmobiles or wildlife!

One of the other treats of this route are the old mines and mining cabins you encounter along the way:
Trotting by an old mining cabin.
"Hey, we could live here!" states inquisitive Zorro glancing at the cabin.
Nosy little Zorro gets intrigued by EVERY cabin and mine we pass by...

A tight turn in the trail and I started drifting too far out of line and called out for everyone to pause while I realigned the skis:
"Okay, I'll wait for you to get realigned!" says happy Max.
"Stop schmop, why do we ever stop?" asks 'less concerned about me and more
concerned to GO' Zorro.

All outings must eventually come to an end. Today's short video clip shows us quickly gliding along the snowmobile trails as we are nearing the end of our run for the day.

A peaceful day covering 8.1 miles with 1000 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 19 MPH.

2014/2015 Season to Date: 57 days on the trails covering 479.4 miles with 51,500 feet of elevation climbed.
