Deep then Speed

The youngsters taking a snow bath to cool off after this morning's fun skijor!
"I have such goofy little brothers!' declares happy Zorro.
"Ahhh, snow bath!" says happy & satisfied Rudy.
"Rub a dub dub!' adds snow rolling Jack (almost hidden behind Zorro).
Today's outing had quite the contrast in snow conditions. We started in the backcountry and found ourselves breaking trail in over 2 feet of snow at times. We finished in the groomed country and found ourselves flying at 20 MPH on the fast terrain. What a wide range of conditions!

When it got really deep, Zorro leapt to the front to show the kids how it is done :)
Super Zorro launching himself through 2+ feet of powder to set the example.
Jack & Rudy powering through deep snow to watch and mimic Zorro's lead.
At 10-3/4 years old, Zorro likes to occasionally get behind the youngsters for extended periods of breaking trail. It is just fine to wear out the kids and help elder Zorro. After showing them "how it's done" (prior photo), Zorro was happy to get behind snorkeling Jack & Rudy for a while:

The reward for breaking trail in the deep backcountry? Eventually we dropped onto the groomed trails of Gold Run Nordic Center. The trails had 1-2 inches of powder atop the fast groomed surface. As soon as the trio dropped onto the groomed track, they took off! Zoooom!
From deep trail breaking to fun sprint tracks! Zoooom!
As has been the theme the last week - we were happily slowed by deep, deep snow. We'll do some trail breaking work now for snowpack deep into May or June! 3.6 miles traveled with 300 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2018/2019 Season to Date: 69 days on the trails covering 368.9 miles with 32,900 feet of elevation climbed.
