Groomie

Everybody having a good time skijoring this morning?

"You betcha!!!!" exclaims the happy pair at our turnaround point.

We had a "groomed surprise" on the trails at Breckenridge Nordic Center this morning. Typically, they groom the upper trails on Mondays to clean up the terrain from heavy weekend use. So, I expected to find somewhat used trails from light Monday traffic. But, surprise, surprise, surprise! They groomed the trails first thing this morning instead of Monday. We were first on the fresh groomie zoomie. Wow and wheeee!

Fresh & untouched groomie zoomie trail all to ourselves!

These upper trails consist of an inner and outer loop that share the lower half of the loop. The groomer had only been on the inner loop but Jack & Rudy need to do at least the outer loop to get enough exercise (and often we'll do both the inner and outer loop for 10+ miles of skijoring). Luckily, few humans make it on the outer loop, so it was still in good enough condition to keep the skijor engine at full throttle:

Flying along part of the outer loop. Not groomed, but also not enough
traffic to be too slick. Wheeee!

We did not spend much time on the outer loop trail but repeated a few sections of the groomed inner loop instead. It was fast & fun along the groomie zoomie. Come watch for yourself:

One thing to notice in the latter part of the video that I'll highlight in the following photo:

Note all that exposed ground to our right! Eek!

What to notice in this photo? Well, the exposed ground to the right. In a good snow year, you never see ground from December 1st until May. Well, we've had a slow start to this season with only a handful of real storms with warm/dry days in between. The section of trail shown above is sun exposed all day and, thus, is getting very thin! We really need winter to "turn on" and start dumping some serious amounts of snow! But, at least we have these upper elevation trails at Breckenridge Nordic Center to keep reusing.

End of day, time to rejoice with fun & retired Zorro:

Such a fun trio for 'end of run' treats!

A surprise "groomie zoomie to ourselves" this morning! 8 miles traveled with 600 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 23 MPH.

2020/2021 Season to Date: 24 days on the trails covering 183.8 miles with 16,000 feet of elevation climbed.
