Machines

Fun time interacting will all kinds of snow machines on the run up & down Buffalo Pass this morning.
Pausing on the side of the trail as we let a big snowcat from Steamboat Powdercats pass
by. "Cool contraption!" declare inquisitive Max & Zorro.

Buffalo Pass is a great area for all kinds of backcountry snow machines. People use snowcats to scale the steep pass for access to ski some of the deepest powder in Colorado. People use snowmobiles to climb the pass to play in the endless snow. Some people use sled dogs to scale the pass for great views and an incredibly fast ride down. Come along for all three...

(1) Following the snowcat we let pass us in the first photo.

(2) Trotting by a snowmobile and exchanging pleasantries...
"Hi guys!" waves the snowmobiler as we pass by each other.
"Hey dude!" smile Max & Zorro back (I know they were smiling :)

(3) My favorite snow machines - sled dogs! Zoom zoom we go high up on Buffalo Pass with a nice view of the rest of Colorado below us...
"Wheeee!" demonstrate the sprinting pair.

Snowcats, snowmobiles and sled dogs - three things built to ascend and descend the steep terrain at Buffalo Pass: 8.4 miles traveled with 1400 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 22 MPH.

2015/2016 Season to Date: 87 days on the trails covering 742.2 miles with 79050 feet of elevation climbed.
