Long Jump

Everybody ready for a fun & fast skijor?
"Yes, yes, yes!!!!' says the happy trio.
We went to the same terrain as yesterday around Walton Peak at Rabbit Ears Pass. This area is dominated by large meadows up, down and around the peak. As a result, we were able to make our own path on the spring crust and do a completely different tour than yesterday. What fun! Look at the incredible snow conditions in the following wide angle shot:
A perfect firm spring crust as far as the eye can see - wheeee!
Yesterday, Zorro introduced a new game to his skijor: long jump snowmobile tracks perpendicular to us. He had never done this before; but did it multiple times yesterday. He also ran through/across many tracks, so he was not having an issue with them, he was just having fun long jumping. He is an expert long jumper when it comes to puddles or streams (he hates water) and he decided to have fun taking this skill to the occasional snowmobile track.

Today, Jack joined in the long jump game. Zorro is the veteran and pack leader so it appears Jack assumed Zorro was trying to teach him something :)  Zorro once again long jumped a handful of tracks this morning and Jack joined in the long jump on multiple of them.

Follow the leader Jack long jumping along with Zorro.
Young Rudy still in his own world :)
Today's short video clip showcases the incredible and vast spring crust atop Rabbit Ears. It also showcases my great partners listening to my "left" when there was no apparent reason to turn left except that I asked (going straight was just as viable). Love how they listen!!!
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Comical point of the outing. A pair of chipmunks scuttled across the snow in front of us and into the protection of a bush. Young Jack & Rudy get distracted and interested in ANY wildlife. Typically, Zorro does not fall for little creatures. But they were so close and TWO of them was enough to get Zorro's attention too!
"Sniff, sniff. Dig, dig. Yoo Hoo, little chipmunks come back up. Nothing to fear up here,
just a set of friendly sled dogs!" says the hunting trio hoping to get a chipmunk or
two to snack on :)
Finally, the usual comical point of the outing. I paused to quickly adjust my boot. Well, I was not quick enough - a pause is a STOP to the youngsters:
"You enabler! Look what you did!" Zorro tells me.
"Pause is stopped, stopped is ROLLING!" demonstrates the goofball twins.

Long jumping Zorro yesterday, long jumping Zorro & Jack today - will tomorrow have a long jump trio? Fun day on the endless crust: 6.9 miles traveled with 600 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.

2018/2019 Season to Date: 112 days on the trails covering 642.8 miles with 60,100 feet of elevation climbed.
