Mid May Freshies
A great day laying fresh tracks in an inch or so of new snow in Swan Valley.
Yay for mid May freshies!
Zorro & Jack riding the smooth shoulder with me while Rudy uses the snowmobile
track to our left. Look at those fresh tracks behind Zorro & Jack!
We did an "out & back" on the Middle Fork Trail in Swan Valley and then cut over to the South Fork and Parkville trails to continue the day and lay more fresh tracks. They only time we saw any other tracks all morning was the return leg of Middle Fork where the tracks were our own from the out direction. What a fun day:
Coming back in Middle Fork as Jack & Rudy continue laying freshies while Zorro
reuses my ski track from the out direction.
Come along for the fun as we zip along the Middle Fork Trail. Love the occasional glance I get from Jack and Rudy as they are hearing "new noises" from my skis and poles in mid-May conditions. Zorro has heard all the noises before, so he knows all is ok :)
Before you jump in the car and plan a trip to Colorado for May skijoring, we did get the occasional reminder that Summer will happen eventually. We might be skipping Spring; but Summer is unavoidable eventually...
Oops, not enough room for all 3 on the narrow snow strip!
Zorro's lifelong mentality has been "toes on snow", he will never drift to dirt when snow is possible.
Rudy looks to be adopting Zorro's "toes on snow" mentality.
Polite Jack takes one for the team and touches the evil dirt :)
Done going out Middle Fork and most of the way back when I paused to check if we had time to drift off to South Fork and Parkville to continue the morning freshies (there is a fork in the trail to either turn onto South Fork on continue back on Middle Fork). Did I say "paused", oh those children!
"Yes we have time for more - why did you stop?!?" says happy Zorro.
"Paused is stopped, stopped is time to roll!" adds the snow angel twins.
A short "out & back" on South Fork before gliding over to Parkville to end the day. Time to turnaround on South Fork, everyone having a good time?
"Yes!!!!!!" exclaims the happy trio.
And look, we are stopped and everyone is upright! I almost fainted :)
Ending the day with a fun shot from the front of the happy, happy sled dogs:
"Whee, so much fun today!" says the happy trio towing me to the finish.
A pretty much perfect day for mid-May: 7.1 miles traveled with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 20 MPH.
2018/2019 Season to Date: 115 days on the trails covering 661.7 miles with 61,800 feet of elevation climbed.
