Facial

Rudy giving himself a "snow facial" while Jack rolls snow angels at our turnaround point this morning :)

"Rub a dub dub!" goes snow angel rolling Jack.
"Aaahhhh!" says Rudy with a face full of snow!

This morning's outing took us to Breckenridge Nordic Center. The day started on some slick terrain; but after navigating that short trail, we came upon the main loop trail to find it very recently groomed! Yay! There was an out & back set of ski tracks from someone who had been on the trail a little before us. But, we quickly out skied those tracks and then found ourselves first tracks on the freshly groomed upper elevation trails at the nordic center. How fun!

Freshly groomed sprint track with fun snow poofs behind Rudy the flying
missile and Jack the flying cannonball!

It was a beautiful morning with temperatures starting in the teens and warming to the 20s (F) by the end of the run. The "fresh groom all to ourselves" lasted almost the entire outing. We did not encounter another soul until we were almost back to the trailhead to end the day. How perfect!

The kids catching air on the groomie zoomie with awesome snow covered
peaks all around us.

We did pause once along the trail as the kids caught a whiff of some interesting wildlife. This is known moose territory and only the whiff of moose or elk that can usually bring Jack & Rudy to a halt.

"We smell moose!" declares the wildlife forest inspectors.

I looked as intensely as I could into the trees, but did not spot an actual moose body. But, never doubt Jack & Rudy's noses, something delicious was very nearby!!!

Back to skijoring. Come along for a wonderful, peaceful video highlight. We are on a wide trail cut in the otherwise dense forest. This is such a fun stretch of trail as it has a ton of gentle left & right curves to swoosh through on the skis behind the fast running kids. Wheeee!

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Back to the trailhead and everyone was tucked in very tight to get their end of run treats :)

"You have our full attention!" declares the happy, happy kids.

A really beautiful morning once we got onto the groomed nordic trails! 10.7 miles traveled with 1300 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 24 MPH.

2022/2023 Season to Date: 78 days on the trails covering 679.8 miles with 61,850 feet of elevation climbed.
