Look what we accomplished this morning!!!
"Ready for a 1000 more!" says cool Jack. "Ready to woo for a 1000 more!" adds wooing Rudy :) |
Yes, that's right, the 5 year olds, Jack & Rudy, have now surpassed 1000 miles of skijoring for 4 straight seasons. The tally is 2019/2020: 1204.1 miles, 2020/2021: 1253.2 miles; 2021/2022: 1315.4 miles; 2022/2023: 1001.5 miles and counting with the rest of March then April, May (and maybe some June?) to continue adding to this season's tally. Impressive kids!
The kids could clearly feel the vibe that something special was happening on this morning's outing. They were zipping all over the snowmobile trails at Dumont Lake on Rabbit Ears Pass.
Start of the outing behind the zipping kids. The mountain in the upper left is Rabbit Ears Peak and the two rocks atop the peak are "the ears" for which the pass is named. |
The snowpack at Rabbit Ears is incredible for mid-March. We anticipate getting well into May and maybe even June on this terrain!
Catching air with endless snowpack all around us! |
As I said, the kids were really in a running groove this morning!
Flying!!! |
What's extra special about the prior photo is that it comes from the following video. Somewhere along the stretch of this video highlight is where we surpassed 1000 miles exactly (and kept on going :)
[watch on youtube if no video loads below]
What a way to earn today's end of run treats!
"Ready!" declares happy Jack. "All in a day's work!" adds mellow Rudy. Look closely, the ears of Rabbit Ears Pass are above Jack's head and between his two ears. Cool :) |
It was a quick day this morning due to very cold temperatures (-18F to start the outing), but we hit our goal of surpassing 1000 miles today: 8 miles traveled with 500 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 23 MPH.
2022/2023 Season to Date; 113 days on the trails covering 1001.5 miles with 91,200 feet of elevation climbed.
