Vail

Breaking the Law! :)

Oops, we are going well over 20 MPH.
Breaking the law, breaking the law :)

This morning was a brand new skijor for us. The majority of our skijor outings center around our home in Breckenridge (Summit County). We do drift to Routt County occasionally for Rabbit Ears Pass and we also dip our toes into the fringes of Eagle County when we skijor Vail Pass. Vail Pass is the dividing line between Summit and Eagle counties. But, we have never ventured further into Eagle County than the top of Vail Pass to skijor. Well, today we had reason to drive through the town of Vail. So, what to do while driving through Vail? Well, look for a trail to skijor of course!

I found a wonderful network of snowmobile trails starting from the Red Sandstone Road trailhead. We had an absolute WONDERFUL time skijoring 9+ miles out and back on these snowmobile trails. Here we are near the finish of the outing with the ski runs of Vail Ski Resort in view across the valley from us:

Zipping along with Vail Ski Resort in view across the valley. Wheeee!

Now come along for the video highlight from today. Of course, I had to use a clip that showed Vail Ski Resort. The video starts with the ski resort in view, then it disappears for a bit until we round a corner and it is even closer in view. Fun, fun time!

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

As you see in the video, the skijoring was wonderful, just like we have in Summit County. Was anything different about the terrain in Eagle County for Jack & Rudy? Hmmmm, nope...

I stopped to read the trail signage since I'd never been here before.
Well, I stopped and it's the usual from Jack & Rudy:
snow angels and woos :)

Further along and guess what? There are rodents under the snow in Eagle County too!

Jack lunging off trail in the hunt for rodents under the snow.
Rudy doing his fox-like rodent dive to excavate for rodents too,

Do end of run treats taste different in Eagle County? Nope!

"We had a blast, now dish them out!" states my happy partners.

What a wonderful outing. We will certainly do it again if we ever have a need to drive through the town of Vail: 9.4 miles traveled with 1100 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 24 MPH.

2022/2023 Season to Date: 102 days on the trail covering 901.4 miles with 82,800 feet of elevation climbed
