Sun and Shade

Stopped at a junction of trails this morning. Well, stopped....

"You pick the trail, we'll 'stop, drop & roll' in the meantime!" declares
silly snow rolling Jack & Rudy.

We like to start all of our skijor outings in the morning. A few reasons. First, Jack & I are early risers. Second, Jack & Rudy get restless waiting to go after early rising. Third, cool morning temperatures are best for running sled dogs. Finally, mornings are the least busy on the trails. As a result, we usually have a low morning sun on clear days.

Come along for today's fun "sun and shade" video minute. It was a beautiful bluebird morning. But, with the low morning sun, the trees all provided shade. As a result, we had fun dipping in & out of "morning sun" and "tree shade" all outing long. A fun "sun and shade" time for all :)

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Whenever there was a break in the trees, we got some stunning views of the beautiful developing morning.

Galloping along with a stunning view to the right with a break
in the trees!

Second verse, same as the first - break in the trees equals awesome views:

Jack & Rudy still galloping along as another postcard shot
unveils to our right.

How about one final beautiful shot of the peaks of Breckenridge Ski Resort ahead and above us?

Yep, galloping along again as the human takes in the
gorgeous morning views.

Jack & Rudy's idea of a "good view"? Well, that would be moose! They both pulled off the side of the trail at one point to stare into the trees. Since Rudy did not do one of his patented "rodent dives", that meant they were attracted to something further off trail. Only a moose (or maybe an elk) can draw their attention if it is far off trail. I stopped with them to look into the trees too. We failed to see a moose, but Jack & Rudy were convinced I must smell the moose too since I stopped :)

"Whoa dad, you stopped! Do you smell it too?!?!?" ask moose
searching Jack & Rudy simultaneously looking back to see if
I was getting the scent of moose too :)

Despite no moose visuals, it was still a very entertaining day with great views from the upper elevation trails at Breckenridge Nordic Center!

"I like the 'end of run' treats view!" adds focused Zorro.
"Yeah, 'end of run' treats!!!" adds the fun kids.

Beautiful morning for an 8.4 mile glide with 800 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 24 MPH.

2020/2021 Season to Date: 98 days on the trails covering 800.1 miles with 69,400 feet of elevation climbed.
