Fat Bike Follow

Cruising by the historic Sally Barber Mine this morning. Wheeee!

Jack & Rudy zipping on by the historic mine.

We did two laps up, down and around the mine this morning on what was fast packed trails. The highlight of the outing, though, was getting to play a fun game of "chase & follow" with a fat biker we encountered on one stretch of the outing.

Following (and catching) the fat bike in front of us!

We encountered this fat biker at an intersection of trails along the way. After a quick exchange about the fun of skijoring vs the fun of fat biking; we yielded to let him lead. Jack & Rudy never like being in second place on any trail, so they hopped right in behind the bike and we played a game of "chase & follow" for a little over 2 miles behind the bike. When he slowed, we slowed. When he sped up, we sped up. Yes, we probably could have passed during the slow downs; but we were having such a good time playing "fat bike follow" that we decided to stay behind and match his speed. I could tell Jack & Rudy were really enjoying this game today!

Come along for a quick "video minute" of the fat bike follow fun. As I said, this went on for a bit over 2 miles; I'll include just a minute of the follow, slow down, speed up fun Jack & Rudy had playing today's game. Wheeee!

[watch on youtube if no video loads below]

Eventually we had to turn away from the bike to get back to our meeting point with Zorro & Nancy. With no fat bike to follow, you might as well floor it on the fast trail instead :)

Nothing to follow (or catch); so, might as well floor it!

A new game to report to retired mentor Zorro - fat bike follow! Zorro had a few bat bike encounters in his skijoring days; but he never had the chance to play the fun follow game for 2+ miles; he only had brief fat bike chase or follow sessions in his skijoring years!

"Really? 2+ miles? Tell me about it!" says super focused & sweet Zorro.
"Yes, it was SO much fun!" adds the giggle twins in the background :)

I love being able to mix something new into our outings and today had a super fun extended game of "fat bike follow": 8.4 miles traveled with 700 feet of elevation climbed and a top speed of 21 MPH.

2021/2022 Season to Date: 76 days on the trails covering 621.2 miles with 58,750 feet of elevation climbed.
